Today i want to introduce you all to Nelpara.
Nelpara is the symbol of ABUNDANCE and it is A MEASURE OF PROSPERITY.
Nelpara is the symbol of ABUNDANCE and it is A MEASURE OF PROSPERITY.
Nelpara is a Malayalam Word ;
Nel = Paddy Grains
Para = Brass Vessel
Nelpara is offered to Lord Krishna.
It can be offered to Lord Krishna only during Sapthaham.
Most of the Kerala Temples host Srimad Bhagavatha Saptaham once or twice every year.
Srimad Bhagavatha Saptaham is the narration and explanation of the entire Srimad Bhagavatam
that is 12 skandhams - 335 Adyaayams -18000 Slokas in 7 continuous days in Temples by a learned scholar.
During this period it is auspicious to offer Nelpara to Lord Krishna.
Today i was here in Lord Ayappa temple which has hosted Srimad Bhagavatha Saptaham starting Sept 11 2022.
As per Bhagavatam - PARA - this brass vessel which you see below is A MEASURE OF PROSPERITY AND ABUNDANCE.
I offered Nelpara to Lord Krishna.
Devotee has to transfer the (Nel) Paddy grains from the Basket into (Para) Brass Vessel in 4 portions under the guidance of a Spiritual Practitioner.
The 4 Portions represents ;
Dharma = Right Conduct = Lord Vishnu
Artha = Material Wealth = Goddess Lakshmi
Kama = Desire = Goddess Lakshmi
Moksha = Liberation = Lord Vishnu
During the Narration of Srimad Bhagavatam the priest will explain ;
"Why is Nelpara called A MEASURE OF PROSPERITY AND ABUNDANCE".
The story that was Narrated today ;
One day a Man Wealthy ; Rich and Prosperous (Having Large Material Wealth) decided to fix 2 wooden hands on his body ; In addition to his original 2 hands he displayed 4 hands to public ; and he also arranged Sudarshan Chakra and started calling himself as Lord Krishna -The provider of the Universe.
Such people have a high opinion about their GREATNESS.They esteem themselves as possessed of all VIRTUOUS ATTRIBUTES.
They are not humble - they treat others with CONTEMPT - "Iam giving you SO MUCH ; Lord Krishna himself is available for you and you are REJECTING ME".
They think that OTHERS ARE INFERIOR TO THEM.
They do HELP others to INCREASE THEIR OWN FAME.
They feel SELF-SUFFICIENT regarding themselves as PERFECT.
They also try to access KAMA with the help of MATERIAL WEALTH.
As per Bhagavatam ; WEALTH ; POWER AND AUTHORITY is GODDESS ASHTA LAKSHMI.
Goddess Lakshmi is ever present in our lives as an OCTAGRAM.
She is the wife of Lord Krishna.
When you exploit POWER / WEALTH and AUTHORITY to gain access to KAMA ; You are insulting Goddess Lakshmi who is the wife of Lord Krishna ; when such an event occurs Lord Krishna will become a THIEF and STEAL not only Kama but also Arta from the life of that person.
On the contrary if the women decides to chose the Body of such a Man as her husband ; She will never be SAFE AND PROTECTED.
According to Bhagavatam such people PERCEIVE BY SENSE ORGANS and not by MIND.
In this regard Sri Suktam dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi is also recited inside the temple.
Sri Suktam sung by Adishankaracharya.
This is exactly why NELPARA IS CALLED A MEASURE OF PROSPERITY AND ABUNDANCE.
Nelpara - THE MEASURE OF ABUNDANCE !
My Grand Father was a Spiritual Practitioner (Guru Swamy) who took thousands of Devotees to Sabarimala Temple ; during Sabarimala off-season he recited Srimad Bhagavatham during Saptaham inside the Temples. He also helped thousands of people divide the Nel into 4 portions and helped them understand the meaning of NELPARA.
The key take away from Srimad Bhagavatam ;
"Follow the PERCEPTION OF MIND and not WHAT YOU SEE - SENSORY PERCEPTION".
An amazing Malayalam song ; Narrates the THEME OF SRIMAD BHAGAVATAM.
You must understand the meaning of the song before watching the song :
"Oh..Lord Krishna When i listen to the music of your Flute ;
I PERCEIVE YOU FROM MY MIND ; As i dont have EYE SIGHT (SENSORY PERCEPTION) i cant SEE you.
This PERCEPTION OF MIND give birth to Music ; Ragam and Talam inside my heart ;
I use this MUSIC with tears in my EYES to earn my ONE TIME MEAL A DAY ;
I use this MUSIC as my STICK (WHITE CANE) to scan my Surroundings when i walk so that i do not end up taking a WRONG PATH ;
However only with PERCEPTION OF THE MIND ALONE and with a lack of EYE SIGHT (SENSORY PERCEPTION) ; I always end up being on a WRONG PATH AND WRONG STREET ;
What surprised me is that - These WRONG PATHS were always leading me to YOUR TEMPLE Oh Krishna".
Vedana ellam Vedantam Aki meaning :
My Pain and Suffering (Vedana) is converted to Vedantam ( Spirituality).
Moral of the song : PERCEPTION OF THE MIND IS THE HIGHEST FORM OF INTELLIGENCE.
Identified Sarcasm : SENSORY PERCEPTION may not lead you to your DESTINY ; But PERCEPTION OF THE MIND will always take you to your DESTINY.
One of my most Favourite !
