Sartorial means FASHION ;
SARTORIAL INTEGRITY MEANS FASHION INTEGRITY.
Sartorial Integrity means EXPLORATION OF TRUTH THROUGH CLOTHING CHOICES.
Sartorial Integrity means EXPLORATION OF TRUTH THROUGH CLOTHING CHOICES.
I have been wanting to write this post about "Half-Naked Fakir" for a very long time. Since Republic Day is approaching i felt it would be the best time to write a post about Half-Naked Fakir.
As a part of the Freedom Movement when Ghandhi started - BURN ALL WESTERN CLOTHES ; The poor were not able to burn the western clothes which were given away to them by the rich as charity because they did not have the PURCHASING POWER to buy any new clothes.
On Sept 22 1921 ; after understanding the PLIGHT of a common man who was suffering without CLOTHES Ghandhi decided to switch to DHOTI AND SHAWL.
The objective was to contribute to the TEXTILE ECONOMY OF INDIA.
Winston Churchill called him HALF-NAKED FAKIR which Ghandhi took as a COMPLIMENT.
The Half Naked Fakir !
Ghandhi was called as CONSCIENCE OF HUMANITY. He was a man of SARTORIAL INTEGRITY.
Today ; Every where we see this massive frenzy of shopping and lot of people believe that Shopping = Happiness and there is A NEED FOR MORE ?
Even during the pandemic people purchased clothes from Flipkart ; Myntra; Amazon etc.
Why this craze ?
Let me share my experience with respect to shopping ?
I was on a Shopping Diet in the last 2 years. I did not spend even 1 Rupee on clothes ; Sweaters or Blankets.
I took out all the clothes that were lying inside my closet for 5 years without being utilized and wore them at home. The Sweaters that i have which i had purchased when i was in Japan were meant to be worn for Minus Degree - SNOW. As i did not have sweater suitable for Bangalore Weather in the last 2 winters - I decided to wear 3 tops together instead of buying new sweaters to keep myself warm.Rather than buying new Blankets i utilized 2 old Blankets together to keep myself warm without buying any new Blankets.
Iam happy that i almost ENDED THE SUFFOCATION THAT I HAD WITH THE CLOTHES that i had accumulated.
Its not just clothes i ended up all my COSMETICS and i realized how much money i wasted on COSMETICS.
On a positive note : "I could experience Ghandhi's Sartorial Integrity".
I realised how much money i wasted on clothes every year.
My new habit is "CONSCIOUS SHOPPING ".
I dont want to pick anything that catch my FANCY and accumulate them in my closet.
Can Ghandhi's Sartorial Integrity put up a mirror in today's world ?
How many of you have Khadi Clothes at Home today ?
We have Ethnic Day in Schools ; Colleges and even Organizations ?
How many Schools ; Colleges or Organizations have Khadi Day ?
Imagine how much we could have contributed to the Textile Economy of India had we celebrated Khadi Day? or May be an "Indian Made Clothes Day".It should start with Schools.
I want to share this video with you. Off-late i came across this video again and again.
