Creating Mandala in Natya Veda !

Mandala is a Sanskrit word meaning "CIRCLE".

Today we will explore how to create MANDALA in space using your body.
Major patterns are created using Major limbs (Head ; Chest ; Sides ; Hands ; Waist ; Feet)
Minor patterns are created using Subsidiary limbs (Shoulders ; Wrists ; Arms ; Neck ; Thighs ; Stomach ; Back ; Knees)

Mandala represents the PATTERNS OF THE UNIVERSE.
The purpose of Natya Veda is to create a MANDALA.

In India Mandala is called as SREE YANTRA.

The 8 petals in the first circle inside is the NOBLE 8 FOLD PATH OF TRUTH.
8 Petals = 8 Directions.

Mandala teach us that the journey of life  IS NOT A STRAIGHT LINE but IT GOES ROUND IN CIRCLES AND MORE ACCURATELY SPIRALS.
There are 3 patterns in the universe - SQUARE ; CIRCLE and TRIANGLE. All the components go round in a SPIRAL FORM.
Metaphorically it means that there are 3 patterns in our life : ORDER ; DISORDER and RE-ORDER. All the components SHOULD go round in a SPIRAL FORM.

Universal patterns can be observed at MACRO ; MICRO AND PERSONAL LEVEL.

ORDER : Most of the people suffer from the "Ego centric need for ORDER".
Conservative people get trapped here.
Ex: There is certain order in life  (and) suddenly there is a disorder - unemployment that is occurred in your life because of someone else's material desires.
An ego centric person will avoid DISORDER and RE-ORDER and bring ORDER into his life by GIVING UP TRUTH.
This pattern is not in alignment with the Universe.

DISORDER : Progressive people get trapped in the DISORDER. They are only worried about bringing a CHANGE in the UNIVERSE AND ARE UNABLE TO TRUST  RE-ORDER.

RE-ORDER : The one who understands that all PATTERNS leads to the MID POINT / CENTRE will see the LIGHT. THEY TRUST RE-ORDER.
Mandala will teach you to surrender to the UNIVERSAL PATTERN OF REALITY.
Letting go of the FIRST ORDER ; TRUST THE DISORDER and the hardest of all is TRUST THE RE-ORDER.

Natural Dynamics of our life should involve all the 3 patterns at a personal level.
However ; Our desire for STABILITY is TANTAMOUNT TO A REJECTION OF NATURAL DYNAMICS.

LIFE SHOULD BE A NON-LINEAR JOURNEY AND NOT A LINEAR JOURNEY.

Let ME be carried away by the CURRENT without the NOTION of where it would LEAD ME.
Faith in the Universe and a Higher power is very important.

DESIRE FOR STABILITY (FINANCIAL OR CAREER) is forcing people to avoid disorder and re-order. This is going to be VERY DANGEROUS for the universe.

The 10 major patterns using major limbs are described in Natya Veda however a dancer can create any number of patterns using minor limbs.

The two most important Major Sitting Mandala that is used in Alarippu.

Flowers unfold their petals enclosing their centre.
Presenting Alarippu which literally means BLOOM OF THE FLOWER.
Watch out for the 2 sitting Mandala in Alarippu.
Alarippu and Jatiswaram are the 2 items of Bharatanatyam Margam that will help a student create Mandala in space.
