An introduction to Shree - A Carnatic Ragam.

Today let us explore another Carnatic Ragam called “Shree”.
It is a popular Ragam that is considered to be "Highly Auspicious".
Shree (Carnatic raga) – Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shree_(Carnatic_raga)

During the fight between Dharma (Good) and Adharma (Evil Demon), when the Good arrived at a disembodied state (a spiritual state) where he lost all material wealth in his fight against Adharma  –  the Good approached Lord Shiva and asked him for a Material Sound and its Power.

The Samudra Manthana (Sanskritसमुद्रमन्थन, lit. churning of the ocean).
The fight between the Good and the Bad.

Upon hearing the request of the GOOD, immediately Lord Shiva created a sound – "SHREE".
The creating of sound Shree.
Lakshmi originated during the Samudra Manthana during which Vishnu was in Kurma (Tortoise) Avatara.

SHREE is a sound related to MATERIAL POWER.
SHREE is the MATERIAL POWER AND NOT MATERIAL ITSELF.

Shree Ragam was composed by Lord Shiva Himself ; the Ragam was created for the sake of Disembodied Spirits who on the Path of Karma and Dharma lost all the material in their fight against Adharma.

The “Shree” syllable is one of the two most powerful sounds in the psycho-phonetics of the Vedic tradition. The other sound being “OM”.

“Shree” represents the Material power and
 “Om” represents the Spiritual Power.

The name  Shree itself claims its considerable antiquity.

Shree commands immense stature amongst the other raga because of its association with a powerful archetypal entity in Hindu mythology – Goddess Lakshmi.

The Shree Suktam (Hymn to the goddess Lakshmi) from Rig Veda, the supplicant prays for protection from hunger and poverty that he might encounter during his Battle against Adharma.

The Ragam is known to please goddess Lakshmi who ushers in prosperity and auspiciousness.
