Today we will explore the first poem of Kalidasa.
Kalidasa was the greatest Sanskrit writer , Poet and Dramatist.
He was one of the court poets of King Vikramaditya.

Shyamala Dandakam is the powerful shlokam that is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati.
"Dandakam" means the entire poem is a single sentence from the start to the end.
Shyamala Dandakam is a whole poetry in just one line.
I have tried this , although i took a break in between i believe that i have done a great job!
What iam demonstrating here is Dandakam and unlike Kalidasa no other poets of the world have created any thing like Dandakam.
It is also called as "Manikya Veenam" , she who has the brilliance and beauty of full Moon who carries a melodious veena in her hands.

After seeing this video , i felt that i did not do a great Job lol...
Some singers have tried singing it in a different style.
However i like the Karnataka version above more than any version.
Whatever is the style , the poem is the most beautiful poem of world literature.
We Indians should be proud of Mahakavi Kalidasa because no other poets in the world have been able to create a poem in JUST ONE SINGLE LINE.
