The Maha Ashtami,Navami and Dashami!

The process of Initiation of Learning begins on Ashtami  - the  8th day of Navrathri.
On the day of Ashtami "Puja Vaipu" is performed.

"Puja Vaipu"  is a Malayalam word meaning - "Initiation of Puja"
On the evening of Ashtami - Puja Vaipu is performed.
"Puja Vaipu" is a ceremony for "Saraswati Avahanam"
Saraswati Avahanam means Invoking of Goddess Saraswati or Invitation for Goddess Saraswati.
During the Ritual - Any material related to Art and Music is kept in front of Goddess Saraswati.
All activities related to arts, music and studies is suspended.









You suspend dance , studies and art for the next 3 days including the reading of the Vedas.









All older plans related to Studies , Art and Music is no longer valid - they need to be removed and cleaned.











Any ornament which you have on your body which was being worn after offering prayers to Goddess Saraswasti will also have to be removed and kept for "Saraswati Avahanam"





"Navami"  the following day is totally devoted to  Goddess Saraswasti.

Then on Vijaya-Dashami Day - "Puja Edupu" is performed.
The breaking of Puja - Vaipu is called  "Puja Edupu" which marks the new beginning into the world of wisdom , arts and music.
Idea is that we are always students in the university called Life.

"Puja Edupu" is a Ceremony of taking away the books and any art material which you have placed for worship back to your study room for RE-USE. The ornaments should be worn back on your body on Vijaya-Dashami after completing the Saraswati Avahanam.

On the Dashami -  Puja is broken by the following activities.
For Kids - Observance of "Vidyarambham" is observed on the day of Vijaya-Dashami.

Those  who  are already into the world of wisdom and who aim to continue to learn , will have to start their new beginnings in this auspicious moment , with the following activities.

1.Rice which was reserved for 3 days will be spread on a tray and the following words will be written on it , this marks the new RE-ENTRY into the world of wisdom , art , music and knowledge.


"Om Hari Sree Ganapataye Namaha , Avikhnamasthu , Sree Guruve Namaha, Sree Saraswati Sahayam"




The four arms of Goddess Saraswati represents the 4 Vedas - Rig  - Yajur - Sama - Atharva Veda.

2.Study at-least one page from the book which you had kept for worship,





3.Perform at-least 1-2 dance steps as the mark of new beginning - or a song , sketch (whatever you wish to continue),

4.Make new study plan calendar and remove all the old calendar's.
One activity has to be performed with each material which was kept for "Saraswati Avahanam"


In kerala all 3 days (Ashtami , Navami and Dashami ) are dedicated to Goddess Saraswati.
Saraswati means free flow of wisdom and consciousness.
