Aharya Abhinaya and Rasa

Today we are going to look into the correlation between “Aharya Abhinaya and Rasa”

"Aharya Abhinaya" is derived from Yajurveda and it is a Sanskrit word which means -“gestures through costumes“

There is a lot of correlation between Rasa and the Aharya Abhinaya  / Costumes.

As mentioned earlier there are about 9 types of Energies / Rasa.
Yoga + Rasa (Aesthetics) = Tandavam and Lasyam
Yoga + Force = Martial Arts
Yoga + Devotion = Ritual
Yoga + Peace = Meditation

When Yoga as an instrument is used along with stylistic expression, one can evoke Rasa
Rasa = Emotions and Sentiment
If you see the pose below, it is a basic yoga pose,
But to this yoga pose i have added 2 hasta mudras from Natya Veda,
Right hands are presenting Alapadma hasta meaning  "Lotus full bloomed"
Left hands are presenting Katakamukha hasta meaning "Plucking flowers"
With these 2 hasta mudras i have converted a yoga pose into a Bharatanatyam dance pose , also can be used in "Kuchipudi and Kathak"
But still there is something that is missing here.

Aharya Abhinaya = Costumes
Costumes are missing

Rasa is highly correlated with Costumes.
Rasa is expressed in :  words, dress and action.

Lord Nataraja has mentioned that those who will follow all the rules of Natya Veda related to words, dress and action will be free from all sins.

There is a concept called Lalita in Natya Shastra which means a women’s movement of hands, limbs , feet should be graceful (lalita), but today dancers are much more daring than the Natya Veda specially in the Bollywood dance.

Same yoga pose was retaken - selfie with 10 seconds timing .
So costumes make a difference!

Anybody out there want to compete with me on Yoga?
