Lord Bahubali along with his brother fought many battles together and then they fought against each other for Kingdom , killed thousands of people blood shed.
One day Lord Bahubali realised that he was fighting for matter and for being attached to materialism , he is said to have meditated in a standing position kayotsarga (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kayotsarga) as a self punishment for 14 years during which climbing plants grew around his legs.
He purified his mind body and soul and even after 14 years of purification he did not get enlightenment.

One day a sage passed by and a drop of tear fell down from Lord's Eyes and the Lord asked the sage -

Sage replied - You have bought a false sense of humility in you, you were a king one day but today you bow down to everyone including a beggar including a rock but cannot bow down to your enemy" and this is what is holding you back.
