The Ramayana month also called as Karkidakam masam (Malayalam ) in Kerala began on July 17th and will end on August 16th 2018
This month (July17-Aug16) is called as Ramayana Month according to Malayalam Calendar
Karkidakam / Ramayana month is the month of Spirituality in kerala.
Owing to the heavy rains this month is also known as "Panja masam" means "month of scarcity" the rains taking away crops leading to scarcity of food .
It is called as "Ramayana Month" because Ramayana has been recited after sunset everyday for the whole month . The reading of Ramayana is done in such a way that it ends on the last day of the month - August 16
Ramayana Month is dedicated to dead ancestors and Kerala is the only state in India where both Son and Daughter has to perform Pitru Kriya.
Today i performed Pitrukriya.
Pitru means ancestor ..

Prapitamaha : Great Grand Parents
The ritual is offered to 3 generations from maternal and paternal side
The last 3 ancestors are the ones who are offered prayers , because it is believed that they are present in us in some form of energy to protect us even today.
There is a concept called as Soul Genetics.
we inherit genes from our parents which they had taken over by their parents and all the decisions we make in our lives is somehow influenced by our parents/ancestors.Sometimes you meet people who carry with them only bad karmic impression, disappointed by bad/unfavorable situations in life they commit sin and convince themselves that this is the way of life .This could also be the result of bad karmic impressions they received from their ancestral lineage.The easiest way to end this is by honoring all our ancestors seeking blessings to forgive any sins which you might have committed unintentionally.
Pitru kriya is all about Anna Daanam.
Daan means selfless giving , every soul owe 3 types of Daan to God.
1.Debt to Lord Brahma - This is cleared by performing Pitru Kriya. We are a link in a long chain that appeared 1000 years ago and we need to thank our Pitru's for bringing us on this earth
2.Debt to Lord Vishnu - This is performed by doing charity.
In Bhagavadgita Lord Krishna declares in Chapter 3 and text 14.
अन्नाद्भवन्ति भूतानि
that "From Food all beings are evolved and the one who can give food selflessly can give anything that is worth giving in the world"
3.Debt to Lord Shiva - If we are all born by the union of Masculine and Feminine energy then irrespective of our gender we should have both masculine and feminine energy within our body and soul.
Pure consciousness (Lord Shiva who is a masculine energy ) present in our heart and soul and then Energy (Shakti) over any unfavorable life circumstances is already present with us in the form of our qualities.
Unless you invoke consciousness (masculine energy) you cannot bring Shakti (Feminine energy) into your life .

Balls of cooked rice mixed with Ghee which is further divided into 3 portions before depositing the same into water
Cow’s milk
Person performing the pitru tarpanam should wear a sacred grass ring.
The mantra that has to be chanted while depositing the offering in water seeking blessings from your ancestors.
