India has a rich cultural heritage and there are various forms of Tribal and Folk Arts.
In India Folk and Tribal Dance is always treated inferior to Classical Dance like Bharathanatyam
While Classical dance is characterized by Grace  and is elaborated by formal gestures and Steps
Folk dance is more of a village and tribal dance meant for group performance during various occasions like Harvest , Rain , Summer festival , community feast ,social gathering.

Today we will explore Folk Dance and Tribal Village of Karnataka .

The Tribal Art form .
These people dance for you inside the Museum and you can pay them anything ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 100.
This is the situation of India and this is how we respect our culture.
The Globalization and Macro Influence - the Tribal folk culture of India is suffering from  Attrition and Erosion

I thought it is very much required to preserve the India Tribal and Folk Culture and here is a post.
All serious matters should be presented in a romantic way ...Am  i correct?

The Model of a Tribal Village

In Bhagavadgita Krishna tells Arjuna about Caste System:
Bhagavadgita , Chapter 4 , Shloka 13

Pls read this very carefully.

cāturvarṇyaṃ mayā sṛṣṭaṃ guṇakarmavibhāgaśaḥ
tasya kartāram api māṃ viddhy akartāram avyayam

चातुर्वर्ण्यं मया सृष्टं गुणकर्मविभागशः ।
तस्य कर्तारमपि मां विद्ध्यकर्तारमव्ययम् ॥४-१३

Krishna says Arjuna that
"The four fold chatur varna caste system that exist in India  was created by me (Krishna) and is based on Karma means "your actions " and it is not based on your "condition of birth"

1. Brahman - The one who is learned all Vedas  and Upanishads and has realised that Krishna exists in his soul /Brahman means soul.
2. Kshatriyas - Those who fight like soldiers for Truth., officially my caste.
3. Vaishyas - Merchants  , one who is engaged in Business and money - selfish actions and lack of wisdom.
4. Shudras - Labourers  without lack of Knowledge .

Lord Krishna wanted every one of us to attain the status of Brahman regardless of our birth.
Brahman is a status that one has to achieve .

Today we have classified Potters and Black Smith as Shudras .

If you have seen "Sangamam" the Tamil Movie , it shows the ongoing fight that is occurring between "Classical Dance - Bharathanatyam " Vs " Tribal Folk Dance" . The Brahman Vs Shudra  / Tribal Fight.
We once again dont want to follow what Lord Krishna Told Arjuna in Bhagavadgita.
Why should one bring dance and culture in between this ongoing fight?
Caste and Dance have become Mutually Exclusive.

While classical dance is always appreciated , we tend to forget the contribution of Tribal people to rich Indian culture and heritage .Due to the lack of support , the folk art has not received much importance today and it is observed as a dance inferior to classical dance forms like Bharathanatyam.

Yes , Folk dance is considered as Backward because the people who performed the dance lived near the forest.
Folk and Tribal Dance is considered to be inferior because it is performed by backward class people.

Located in the lower ties of caste system , folk dance has not received popularity and appreciation

The Tribal and the Village.
The Origin of Folk dance in the Village

The tribal people ..Potters and Black Smithy.

Farmers also becomes a part of lower social caste and their dance forms is not given much  importance

Along with a Farmer.
"Kai kesaradare bai Mosaru" implies - When your hands get dirty , you mouth becomes full of Food

Do i look British ..

This is a Kshatriya , warrior dance - Yaksha Gana
Even at cultural level we have caste system .

Yaksha Gana is similar to Kathakali art form in Kerala

Veera Gallu , the Warrior Stones

Lets not mix caste system with culture and encourage Tribal and Folk dance
