Bon Dance /Bon Odori is held in Japan every summer and one of the most famous folk dance of Japan!
This Dance is performed in Japan from over 700 years !
The spiritual meaning of Bon-Odori is discover your ego through dance and then remember the dead and thank them !
Lets investigate the history of Bon Dance !
Dance for the dead ! I tried the dance for the dead for the first time in life!
Guess what has been my adventure today! Bon Dance! Bon Odori !
I learnt 3 types of Bon Dance!
Whats amazing about Bon Dance is that - you dance to the drum beat and dance joyfully without calculating your ego , joyfully means innocently letting all your ego down
Usually danced in a group in circle
Sometimes you move clockwise and sometimes you have to move anti clock wise
Before dancing at the venue - hey you gotta practice .Guess what has been my adventure today !
May be you wanna dance with me ! Here you go!
Thats our Dance Troup!
Reached the venue and hit the grounds!
Thats yugara which is the band stand for dummers and singers !
Our Dance gang!
My dream - one day i want to dance on that stage!
Traditional Japanese Stalls! Games Food!
The yagura drum players are very energetic ,i like more energy in the dance i would have preferred a little more forceful execution in this dance but hey whatever works for performers!
I Was told i was mixing Bollywood dance into my steps - actually i wasn't -i was trying to bring in more energy in my execution.
but later i realized that the Bon dance itself is sensual and you have to be slow in your moves and steps.
example there is a famous sakura Bon dance song about a little girl and
you have to simply dance like a little innocent girl , forceful energy is ruled out!
Here is a first song to greet the ancestors!
Thats my performance!I Wanted to be a dance leader hence i took the position inside the inner circle!lolz..
Am i repeating the same steps ! Yes you are right thats exactly what Bon Dance is all about!
You go around and around and around and around and around doing and repeating the same steps - until the time the drummer changes his beat!
Then again the drummer continues the same beat for another half and hour and the dancer go around and around and around and around doing the same steps !
Thats how Bon Odori is performed !
Some more performances!
The dance involved a lot of drumming!
Lyrics are easy..you hear aye...e..saye aye....many times!
Large drums called as odaiko is mainly used for the performance!
What i did not like is Japanese hate rain during the dance and most of them were seen praying that "ohh hope it does not rain !"
If one of the reasons of the dance is to let your ego down and then thank your ancestors
then its a rule no matter what you have to dance till the last drum ! Do you agree? Why worry about rain ?
its a dance performed to thank and greet your ancestors ! would you not greet them if it rains???
My Adventure today was amazing and now i can tell all my Global Friends that "Hey i know Japanese Bon Dance"!
Dancing is always fun!
