Hey.... Wana take off your pants ! Ohh..i meant ...throw caution ...take off your pants in an Onsen! The best of Japan ! Yes it was an ice breaking adventure!
Past sunday i had been to one of the popular Onsen at Odaiba with one of my Japanese Friend....At Odaiba I did not only eat 4 pieces of Raw Fish (an achievement) but spent about 5-6 hours in an Onsen ! Oedo Onsen !
Onsen is a Japanese Hot spring outdoor bath ! A public bath!
The water is usually around 40 degrees to 44 degrees.
The water is geothermal and has some minerals in it to kick back and rest your bones!
Thats the entrance of Oedo Onsen at Odaiba ! 13 minutes from Tokyo Shimbashi .
At oedo onsen you have to first take your shoes off and then you register for entrance and get a yukata for yourself ...You are free to explore Oedo Onsen in a Yukata !
The whole traditional Japan Culture !
But before getting into the Bath ..you have to be fully naked ! Yes fully naked !
Naked togetherness is a sort of spiritual experience in Japan !
All other females took their clothes off as if it was no big deal including my colleague and Friend! I decided to take my clothes off and follow her ..It was a kind of thrill...We first went into the shower to clean ourselves..now thats the rule ...
Then i felt that It was a bit wiered to strip naked when so many of strangers are around you..it was the first time and at first i decided to leave my japanese friend alone and sit inside the shower hiding ...how uncomfortable i was nothing to wear...
then i took courage assured myself that "it does not matter" ..just like bowing or saying "Arigato Gozaimas" ....shyness slipped away and i was naked emboldened....wow it was such a wonderful experience ..inside the hot spring water for 5 hours ! The chilly red from the hot spring heat and cold weather was perfect ! I wanted to fall asleep !
I soaked myself in hot water for almost 5 hours!
I Enjoyed all kinds of baths..some had mineral water , some had very hot water ..what i enjoyed was outdoor bath -its called as rotenburu .....it was very cold outside ....killing cold...but inside the furo was heaven ..one of the best things that i experienced in Japan ...in a cold weather ..."soaking yourselves in a hot spring water !"
I realized i became more confident with my Body ! Now thats the Japanese Culture ! I just love it !
Being naked is just like breaking the ice!
I realized i started discussing more intimate topics than chatting over a star bucks latte..i mean it ! She was working with me for 2.5years in Singapore almost but we did not speak so intimate !
Onsen--is a feeling of deeper connection with the earth...!
These small earthquakes and this hot springs this autumn snowfall ---everything in japan makes me feel that this is a land of faith and this planet is a fantastic creation ! You just need to explore to live it !
