Abbi in Kodava means Water falls. The British had named it after the daughter of Coorg’s first chaplain. Known as Jessy falls, it is now called Abbey Falls. Abbey Falls is at a distance of 9km from Madikeri amidst private coffee plantations and spice estates. Madikeri is in South West Karnataka . A downhill walk of 500 meters from the entrance takes one to the waterfalls. Water flow is very high during Monsoons and considerably very low during summer. Best time to visit the place is early winter.
Beware of Leeches. Leeches are not found on the downhill walk, but if you happen to be a little more adventurous and decide to take the route through the coffee and spice plantations you are at Risk.
Water is very refreshing and you would feel like Jumping In. A hanging bridge will give a very good view of Falls . From here the water flows into Kannada Nadina Jeevanadhi Kaveri.
